Hop And Bop
Heavy golden bells hung around the cows’ necks, clanging each time they trotted up the mountain. The faster the cows trotted, the faster the bells rang. Clang! Clang! Clang!
Magali couldn’t believe it. ‘No! No! No! They’re out of time. Their bells are ringing at different times.’ She placed her paws over her tiny marmot ears. She shouted to the cows, ‘I’m so embarrassed for you!’ She watched them from her hiding place, with her best mate, Mishka.
The cows climbed higher, passing The Cheese Shack. It’s a wooden cabin where Big People wear white aprons, and on their hair, they wear little mosquito nets. Inside, there are huge, steel pots filled with milky liquid. The Big People use long sticks to turn the milky liquid around and around, until one day they pull out an enormous lump of fresh cheese.
On the mountain, a Big Person, wearing long black boots and a black cap, followed the cows. He called to them. ‘Eeeeeeeeeh-up, up, up!’ Each time he yelled, the cows moved faster. They trotted, and one of them lifted her tail and did a sloppy poop.
Mishka’s rabbit eyes nearly exploded. He pointed. ‘She didn’t even stop! She trotted and pooped at the same time!’
Poop slid down the cow’s leg.
‘Eeeeeeeeeeyuuuew!’ Magali squished up her nose.
‘Eeeeeeeeeh-up, up, up!’ The Big Person called.
The marmot and rabbit put their paws around their mouths, and shouted, ‘Eeeeeeeeeh-up, up, up!’
A cow with great big pointy horns turned and stared. Magali and Mishka gasped, and disappeared behind their rock. After a minute, they stuck their heads out again.
‘Yoo-hoo! Here we are!’ called Mishka.
A large shepherd dog came running. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Ruff! Ruff!
‘Run!’ shouted Magali.
