Dude’s Gotta River Raft

Chapter 1
The Swooshy Wooshy

Mishka flapped like a bird, which is hard when you’re a rabbit. ‘I’m going to kill youuuuuuuuuu!’ he yelled, falling through the air.

Magali also fell, through scratchy tree branches. ‘Noooooooooooooo!’ Splat! The marmot landed on the rocky ground.

Ker-plunk! The rabbit landed next to her. His face squashed into the ground.

Magali stood, wiping dirt and twigs from her body. She pulled Mishka up by his tail. ‘Are you okay?’

The rabbit blinked five times.

‘Do you think I’m okay?! We were supposed to be going for a walk through the mountain, not flying down it, okay? Why did you lead me off the edge?’

‘I took a wrong turn!’

‘Lucky I didn’t break my glasses!’

The rabbit’s accent was stronger than normal. He was born in Holland, and when his Grandpa Klaas died, his mama said, ”We’re moving to France.” Now, whenever Mishka got scared or angry, his Dutch accent got stronger.

The young rabbit adjusted his glasses, then gasped. They’d landed on a ledge. He took three giant steps back. He gasped again. ‘Aaaaaaaah!’

‘What?’ she said.

‘You!’

‘Me?’

‘Your head!’

Marmots’ flat-shaped heads looked weird in conjunction with their tiny ears and fat, furry bodies.
